- What a day for field target! It rained to beat the band the night before,
and everything was wet this morning. Talking with Greg Frostad, who drove over from New Mexico
last night, he stated the storm was “interesting”, and provided a great
light show. In any case, things
were moist but not a detriment. The
ladies that decided not to come, for whatever reason, really missed a great
day. It started out cloudy and
threatening, with some light rain early on, that transcended into a bit of
breeze and then miraculously, brilliant blue sky and puffy cumulous clouds,
and comfortable temps…..for August in Arizona!

- Nine guys showed up to play, with 3 coming from CA (Vince, Eddie, and
Larry) and 1 coming from NM (Greg, who brought along his 4 year old son,
Odin, aka: Mr. Personality). Amongst them were 3 new shooters, one of which
was my son! Everyone had a
great time, and I saw something that I have never experienced before; a
perfect score being shot!!!

- Bobby Corcorran cleaned the 48 target course, with Vince Pacheco only one
point behind. This month we had
8 lanes with 3 targets per lane and some interesting target placements.
The farthest was 48, but the closest was about 8 yards; a spider web
with a 3/8” kill zone. Personally,
I had no idea where to hold on that one.
Bobby, on the other hand, lit up the scoreboard with his blistering
performance. Vince’s 47 was no slouch either, as he is getting ready to
depart for Ireland to represent the U.S. in the world championships.
We wish him and the other 3 team members a safe trip, good time, good
shooting, good fellowship, and a safe return.

- The 3 new shooters did admirable, with my son shooting airgun for the
first time ever. I am grateful
to my daughter-in-law for allowing him to come along with me.
We had a great time! Of
course I shot a terrible score due to forgetting to turn my elevation knob
correctly toward the end of the match.
Turned out I was a whole revolution off.
I thought I knew better than that.
(Note to self: bang head against wall to knock some sense into it)

Next month we will partake of Ron and Bonni Jo’s
hospitality at their ranch just east of Flagstaff.
We are destined once again to have a great time.
Hope to see you there.
