Results from October18 in Camp Verde, AZ

What a perfect day for shooting Field Target! We shot at Bobby and Sandy Corcorran’s range in Camp Verde, AZ, and were blessed with vivid blue skies, bright sunshine with few clouds, mild temperatures, and NO WIND! In the past we have had winds that could blow us off the face of the earth, but today…..well, we just looked at each other and didn’t know how to act. Unbelievable!
We had 3 California shooters make the trek over to AZ; Vince Pacheco, Larry Durham, and Dave Frederick. It was great to shoot with them and they definitely added to the camaraderie of our friendly group. We had a ball.

Bobby laid out his usual challenging course with targets down in the hollow amongst the tangle, in the shadows, and up in the trees. Seeing the 24’ extension ladder braced against one tree, and following the string line showed us where the owl was perched high in the fork of the tree. Nice touch! The raccoon down behind the berm, which forced a standing shot, was another well thought out placement.
We had 15 shooters competing, but had a few notable MIA’s also. The recent downturn in the economy and stock market has taken its’ toll with one of our members loosing his job and unable to attend future shoots until that can be rectified. Another member’s wife is quite close to giving birth to their first child. We are fortunate in that Larry Piercy and Ric Grassmick are back and healthy again. We are equally grateful for having Dale Keiser with us after a recent life threatening scare.

Once again, Bobby showed us how to play this game by shooting 36 of 38 and taking match winner. Debbie Keiser and hubby Dale Keiser were tied with 33 of 38. When given the option of a shoot-off or other tie-breaking scenario, Dale, very wisely, conceded 1st place to his bride in order to keep peace in the house. Smart man!

After we shot, or maybe I should say towards the end of the shooting, it was hard to concentrate due to the aroma wafting across the firing line. Vince Pacheco brought along a massive amount of carne asado from California, and the smell of that on the grill was causing a lack of concentration on the firing line. That had to be the tenderest carne asado I have ever eaten, and was accompanied with another spread of goodies by Sandy. If there is one thing this group loves to do is chow down. Bobby and Sandy once again went above and beyond to make us welcome and feed us. Thank you so much for your kind hospitality and thanks to Vince for his generosity and consideration. It is greatly appreciated. I want to thank Ric Grassmick for the pictures this month. Good job!
Next month is our state championships in Prescott. The dates will be November 15 & 16 with more information to follow. Check the clubs website at www.airgunsofarizona.com/Airgunners for updates.
