The FX Independence has been referred to as the “holy grail” of airguns. The precharged, self-contained, repeating action is the reason the name is deserved. The various different airgun powerplants all have inherent positive and negative attributes. The spring piston system is self-contained, but suffers from recoil and vibration as well as lending itself to poor repeating capabilities. The multi-pump system is recoilless, but suffers from difficult and time-consuming effort. The precharged-pneumatic system is both recoilless and easily designed as a repeater, but suffers from requiring an external source of power such as a dive bottle or high-pressure hand pump. Until now…

Enter the FX Independence. It is completely independent from an external power supply, however it is still a precharged-pneumatic air rifle and has all the benefits and advantages of all different systems: Easy to charge, zero recoil, very high power, repeating mechanism, extremely quiet, and completely self-contained.

Here is a run through of how the FX Independence works: starting with a full charge, the rifle requires three easy pumps with the onboard pump for every shot taken. The rifle can be fired up to 7 times at full power with match grade consistency before any pumping is required. From this point, 21 pumps would be required to return the rifle to a full charge. The shooter can choose any combination of shots/pumps to match the need of the situation.

The FX Independence is one of the most sophisticated and technologically advanced shooting instruments in the world. Fredrik Axellson, the brain-child of many airgun related patents and the owner of FX Airguns, considers the Independence one of his finest achievements in airgun development. The Independence shares the same super smooth side-lever as the Royale 400. This cocking and loading system is the finest available side-lever, with positive feed as a repeater for sport, or single shot for competition use. The trigger system has upgraded components and lighter springs that allow for very light, safe, and crisp release, and is adjustable for both 1st and 2nd stage weight and travel. The Independence sports a purposeful synthetic stock that is both durable and weather proof. The thumbhole design is comfortable with molded grooves in the grip and fore end surface for a non-slip hold. The weight of the rifle with the stock is just a touch over 8 pounds, making it much lighter than the rifle appears. At the bottom of the fore end resides the largest pressure gauge found on any current air rifle. The large size makes it simple to read by even old, tired eyes and allows for more precise control over the working pressure within the rifle to ensure ultimate consistency. All precharged airguns have what is called a “sweet spot” where the highest level of consistency and accuracy are achieved. The Independence can be kept inside this “sweet spot” for top-level accuracy. Mated to the solid block breech is one of the most accurate barrels ever to be produced. The smooth twist barrels on all Independence rifles have been tested and give reported groups around ½ inch at 50 yards. This unique barrel design is an FX Airguns exclusive and is produced at the FX factory in Sweden with Mr. Axellson overseeing the production and quality control. Each rifle is accuracy tested at the factory for quality assurance. The FX Independence is a top-level target gun as well as a hunting tool deluxe with its near-silent report and quick follow-up capabilities. This revolutionary rifle is at home in the field and at the target range, and is a valued addition to the most discerning airgun collector.

Great Potential--Severe Disappointment
I purchased the Independence in late 2011 from Airguns of Arizona, and I absolutely LOVED it. It was accurate, gorgeous, and unique. The self sufficiency of the rifle is priceless. Then, after about a year of regular light use (and pampering), it started leaking air. I tried the obvious fixes, checking joints, etc. No dice. It LEAKS. A LOT. It will go from 200 bar to 100 bar in 8 hours without being touched. Trust me when I say I took VERY good care of this rifle. For a long time, I put the defective rifle aside and did nothing. Like all of us, I am busy. Eventually, in September 2014, I wrote a long letter to FX in Sweden providing details. They did not even have the decency to respond. The other day I saw the rifle in its case in my basement and it reminded me how angry I was about this. So I decided to see if this lemon is still being sold, and if it was, to write a review. I DO NOT BLAME Airguns of Arizona--they are a fine dealer. I blame FX, 100 percent.

Great Choice
I purchased the Independence so I would not have to have a separate air source that I would have to drag around. I have two other air rifles one a break barrel and one CO2, all are very accurate but cannot compare with the FX Independence.
One of the great enjoyments is consistently placing a full 12 round magazine of
18 gr FX pellets in the small red circle at 30yds so it makes it dissapear.
A number of fellow air gunners at our club have had the opportunity to shoot it and all have expressed how impressed they are with the accuracy and the light trigger.
Starting with a full 200 bar of air I can shoot a full magazine of 12 rounds and then pump back up to 200 bar with 15-16 pumps, this provides a great level of consistency and maintains accuracy. I do not have a chronograph so cannot determine the power curve or sweet spot, but so far it hasn't been necessary.
The rifle is not cheap but you do get what you paid for, no dissapointment here!!!!
