Competitive events that showcase air rifles are growing worldwide. North and South America, as well as the Middle East, Europe, and the United Kingdom, now host regional events with cash prizes. The birthplace of long-range benchrest competitions worldwide is Arizona, home of the Extreme Benchrest Event. Naturally, Arizona can also take credit for one of the finest benchrest air rifles in the world: the American Air Arms EVOL HPS Benchrest/PRS with 25" Barrel.

The American Air Arms HPS is 100% made in the USA, sans the pressure gauges. This includes the barrel, grip, stock, and action—all USA-made. The foundation for the rifle is the HPS, short for High Performance System. The action starts life as a single billet of missile-grade alloy. Machined from this single block is the 25 MOA Picatinny scope rail for long-range scope zero. Integrated into the action is the hammer adjustment wheel that operates like a drum-brake adjuster, without a large dial hanging from the side of the rifle where it can be bumped, accidentally moved, or damaged. This adjuster gives the user freedom to custom-tune the desired projectile velocity. The regulator is externally adjusted from the front of the air tube by means of a torque tube. The engineering specialists at American Air Arms have integrated a valve-dwell adjustment for super-quick and easy airflow changes. This trifecta of tuning options gives the shooter almost endless possibilities to refine the rifle to the shooting discipline and ammo desired.

The trigger on the HPS is one of the finest units found in an air rifle; the feel and break are truly match-grade. The trigger comes out of the action as a single unit for service and adjustment. The chassis stock is made from the finest aircraft alloy, with an ARCA rail and M-Lok cutouts for bipod, tripod, and accessory fitting. The rifle sports two smartly placed pressure gauges—one for air supply and the other for regulator set. The side-lever cocking is very smooth and almost effortless, the result of clever engineering of the HPS system and the balanced valve. The probe pin for seating the pellet or slug is adjustable for precise loading into the barrel.

To provide EBR-winning performance, American Air Arms management has invested large amounts of capital and labor to support their own OEM source for barrels. The SUB-MOA single-point-cut barrel installed in the HPS rifle is computer-controlled and lead-lapped to achieve the highest level of precision and performance in the airgun industry. The barrel is a massive tapered target profile for minimum harmonics. The crown is a special-angle cut for maximum accuracy. The barrel is threaded into the massive breech block for maximum rigidity. Power levels up to and over 180 ft-lbs in .30 caliber can be achieved with the HPS. The recoil is very sedate for such a powerful rifle.

The magazine included is made from alloy to the same quality as the rifle. The stock included is an AR-style Magpul PRS Lite with cheek and butt adjustments. The grip is also Magpul AR-style. Performance-enhancing accessories are available, such as plenum extensions, caliber changes, and barrel profiles. The American Air Arms HPS line of rifles is made for discriminating shooters who want the finest rifle, crafted from the finest materials to the highest level of craftsmanship in the USA.
