Not for the faint hearted, the Model 48 RWS air rifle is impressive in both performance and appearance. Its tremendous power is generated by a robust spring piston power plant cocked by a side lever action that shoots .177 caliber pellets up to 1100 feet per second. The substantial one-piece stock allows for comfortable offhand shooting and the precision rifled, fixed barrel system is loaded via the sliding breech opening. Other features of the RWS 48 include an adjustable trigger, adjustable rear sight, and automatic safety.

D48 superb precision & power
Bought my 48 about 8 years ago , it’s a magnum springer that made its debut after the famous Beeman R1 was hailed as the first mag springer- and that a long time ago. The 48 is hands down a classic and the rifle that is tuned to the point of a Ferrari. My 48 has only been opened for a replacement of the main spring and on the way it was lubed and adjusted, but this was after thousands of shots. The 48 right out of the box in 177 pushes the CP 10.5g at 850 FPS which is not as powerful as the RWS 350 in 177 , but with its fixed barrel the accuracy is pin point. One thing that fixed barrel has over a break barrel is that the fixed barrel is much less sensitive to hold which makes for tremendous accuracy without having to fiddle around with the rifle before taking the shot. Putting it simply it’s a lot easier to shoot accurately with the 48 than with a break barrel. As for the materials, workmanship and finishing this rifle is 100% German quality. The side lever takes a while to get used to but once you got it down it’s like ripping a piece of cloth. Loading the pellets is somewhat awkward, but in time becomes second nature, and the safety mechanism of the breech is state of the art. My 48 as the one advertised came with a TO6 trigger, I believe you can’t get a better trigger for the money- I have never had to adjust it and it is crisp and predictable.
I didn’t by my 48 from AofA, but I did buy my RWS / D52 in 22 cal from AofA- the 52 is a fancier version of the 48 in relation to the stock , but everything else is the same. The 48 is capable with a 3-9x32 scope of making less than 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards. The 48 is on the heavy side but the weight is all factored into the engineering needed to achieve superior precision. This is a seriously accurate rifle, and with proper care will give its owners many years of excellent performance, mine will no doubt be left to my grandkids.

Brutal Beauty
My RWS Model 48 arrived in perfect condition.

On my five acres of undulating desert land, I have a challenging field target course. The nearest target, a raven with a 1/2 inch kill zone, is 20 yards from my bench. Ninety downhill yards away is a rat with a 1.5" kill zone. In between the raven and rat are squirrels, elk, possums, and zombies with kill zones ranging from 1/2 inch to 1.5 inches.

Only three rifles have hit the 90 yard rat during the first five-round session: a Diana K98 Mauser .177; a Walther LGU .22, and this brutal beauty, my RWS Model 48 in .177.

I love this rifle! I hit all 30 field targets, many on the first attempt. One inch lollipops set at 35 yards exploded into bright dust when hit by the JSBs. My 48 is shooting the 10.34 pellets at 890-896 fps after one-half tin. The firing sequence is manageable. The trigger is allows for a predictable, clean break.

So much fun for so little money! The UTG 10x44mm scope, UTG DNT06 mount, and Hawke rings are holding up to the recoil. Zero remains constant.

I am a springer fan through and through, so the noticeable cocking effort is what I expected. I know the gun will ease up after break-in. I was pleased that the firing sequence is smooth enough to maintain follow through. A relaxed hold is best for accuracy in my 48.

AoA has the best deal in the Universe for the RWS Model 48.

Five stars deserved for high fun factor, quality build, power, accuracy, and high aesthetic appeal.

Soots great but no Diana logo
The gun is great, but the one I received does not have the name Diana or the famous Lady emblem on it, just RWS. The video on this site shows a Diana version. After some research I found they are all made in the same Diana factory, but I was disappointed that the ones sold by AoA do not bare the Diana logo.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm really impressed with this gun--both in it's quality and the way you tested, packed, and shipped it.
