Up On My Soapbox

Monday, December 21, 2015

Rather than a review or general airgun related article this time, let me hop up on my soapbox for my last blog posting of the year.  My hope is I’m “preaching to the choir” here, but since we are entering an election year where our gun rights are under attack more than ever, I want to make it clear to readers – if you as an airgunner do not belong to a recognized organization that supports the 2nd Amendment, get off you’re backside and join now.  The NRA is the largest and oldest, but if you like another organization that has a legitimate goal of keeping guns available to law-abiding citizens of this country, then go for it.  I say legitimate because gun-grabbers have used the old “wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing” ploy in the past to masquerade as a pro-gun group. I believe their thinking was hoping to dilute membership and dues to pro-gun organizations and spread their propaganda to an unsuspecting public.  Whatever their twisted thinking was if you go with an outfit outside of the known pro-gun groups, check them out carefully.  One of these phony groups was the “American Hunters and Shooter’s Association (AHSA) and it was headed by a member of the Brady campaign.  Its Board of Directors was a Who’s Who of the gun control cabal.  They were exposed by the NRA and social media and have since closed their phony operation.  I guess I begrudgingly have to give the gun-banners credit.  They are a creative lot for certain.  Since they’ve had a tough time putting the Second Amendment out of business legislatively, they find other ways to chip away at it.

So, bottom line and I’ll get off my soapbox:  If you value the airgunning hobby and you’d like to have unfettered access to lead ammo, powerful airguns and even realistic air soft replicas, get in the game.  Support pro-gun organizations and candidates anytime you can.  You may be thinking “I only like airguns and nobody is after them; they even come with ‘silencers’ now and aren’t on the gun-grabber radar”.  That is dangerous thinking.  The gun-grabbers just haven’t gotten to them yet.  Keep standing on the sidelines and they will.  Some overly emotional argument will be promoted about “the irresponsible use of all things airgun”.  We the People all of a sudden cannot be trusted with them because serious airgunners will be lumped into the same bucket as irresponsible and unsupervised youngsters who shoot out car windows and any other negative angle they can come up with.

There is an old saying: there are 3 kinds of people – those that make things happen, those that watch things happen and those that wonder what happened.  Which kind will you be?

The above statements are my personal opinion and not necessarily those of AOA.  However, for questions you can reach out to Airguns of Arizona at www.arigunsofarizona.com or leave a comment.

There are Democrats who love air guns. It seems these guys want everyone who does not agree with them to get out of hunting and shooting. Well I am not going to do that. I plan to continue to exercise my right to bear sporting goods.

Good for you Jeff. Let’s just keep voting and working with like-minded individuals to make sure that “those who know what is best for us” don’t ever get their way by lumping all of the law-abiding with the criminally insane and terrorists.

        Hi everyone;
let me start with that I’m not born in america I was born in russia but I came to usa because i love america and also escaped exact same persecution of taking guns away under pretense that guns are root of all evil, then after all the guns are taken away then they can come after you if they don’t like you and you can’t protect your self. that’s what Stalin, lenin, hilter,& you name any other dictator did. In this case christains are the target because they cannot redefine what right and whats wrong because Christians are in the way.Once Christians are out of the way who is hext, rich people? lets stand up and fight back this evil because their is no satisfaction to there appetite. And all shose shootings are very strange especially when it come to timing, as so as shooting took place obama already had his speech written and he’s delivering it with in hours, but when a horrible act took place in san bernadino it took president how many weeks to address that it almost seem like it was planned, so lets get out there and protect our god given rights if we lose it here there is no other country we can go and enjoy our freedoms

Thanks for your comments Eugene. I appreciate you taking time to relate your personal experiences and hope that others are moved to get involved, participate in the political process and support all gun rights.

Wise advice. Further, we need to evaluate the candidates in the next, and all, elections and vote for the person(s) that we can count on to support us. Let’s forget about party labels.

    1. Gordon Smith says:

Well said Paul. Thanks for taking time to read the blog and comment.

        I think the 2nd amendment needs 2 b revisited.

  5. Tom says:

If you look around, various states already put strict controls on airguns. As far as I know, we have no organization that has airgun rights as it’s main concern.

  6. Craig Cook says:

Folks, if you have any doubt about what the anti gunners want, remember what old man Brady said himself, Theres no use banning any of them, IF YOU DONT BAN THEM ALL!

    1. Gordon Smith says:

Yep Craig, if it wasn’t for the 2nd Amendment and the hard work of a lot of good people whose only focus is not just the right to bear arms, but protection of all of our Constitutional Rights, we’d already be like England and Australia. If only the gun-grabbers would focus their energy and efforts on working to resolve society’s underlying problems rather than blaming inanimate objects and the people that enjoy and legally use them.

      1. Jeff rice says:

I think the deal England has n power of air guns would work well here. I don’t know what 2 do about fire arms. We’ve made a fatal error some where n time.

I am a gun owner and have been all my life. But I will never support an extremist lead organization like the NRA. It would be so great to hear from NRA members that do not just repeat the BS that they read on blogs. I support any measure that will reduce gun violence. I think Congress are cowards to not let the CDC study this horrific problem in this country to try and figure what causes and how to prevent these senseless killings.

    1. Gordon Smith says:

Hi Quarterpole, an interesting point-of-view for a “gun owner all my life”. If I’m reading this correctly, you believe that the CDC should receive tax dollars to promote an agenda which “proves” inanimate objects are a “plague” or “epidemic” causing gun violence? Once they “establish that fact”, the factoid can be waved in front of Congress and the court of public opinion to pass even more limited-use laws that will only be spottily enforced, if at all.
I believe that any halfway intelligent person would agree with you about gun violence being a major problem needing to be reduced somehow. Unfortunately, it is not a problem with an easy, band-aid solution like the CDC producing a study.

Of course you have a right to that belief, and also a right to withhold support from an organization that you feel is “extremist”. One of the points I made in my blog was to throw your support behind some organization that works to preserve the 2nd Amendment. If you don’t, I fear that you will soon be standing in line to turn in all of your firearms (and airguns?) to your local police station.

      -Gordon

      1. Quarterpole says:

You sound like it is hard to believe that a gun owner would not fall for the BS put out by the NRA. Some gun owners like myself can actually think on their own and draw their own conclusions. The CDC would study all the surrounding evidence in gun violence not the simple analogy that you portray. And this belief that they are coming to get our guns is so extreme that it would be almost comical except for the fact that our gun society has been brain washed into really believing it. And I do contribute to organizations that try to improve our quality of life and are not just a pawn of the gun industry..Everytown for Gun Safety.

      2. Gordon Smith says:

My opinion of EGS would be right up there with your opinion of the NRA, so I guess we will just have to “agree to disagree” on this one Quarterpole. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Quarterpole says:

It is such a shame that people can be manipulated so much in this country. That is where a lack of education really helps out the special interests groups. The town hall last night outlined some common sense efforts to start addressing gun violence but all the gun nuts will line up and start trash talking it.

    1. Jeff rice says:

Neither 1 of Ur dogs can hunt. Examine closely the mentality of a gun owner. Even me.

  9. Neal O. says:

I think improvements in education would greatly increase the number of us “Gun Nuts”. In history class, reading Otto Dietrich’s book “The Hitler I Knew” would certainly have that effect. Otto was Hitler’s press chief. In this book, he explains how Hitler registered guns and Jews so they could later be removed.

Also, you would learn how the Japanese attack stopped short of the US mainland because they feared the presence of individually owned firearms in most houses (different book).

Current events would be good to add to the curriculum, too. Like how so many shootings occur in “gun free zones”. Sure makes me feel safe at the mall.

Another curriculum item would be to study the CDC website. Located here: http://www.thecommunityguide.org/violence/firearms/index.html

On this webpage you will see how the Task Force on firearms laws reports show the results of their study to be inconclusive for all listed categories including: Zero Tolerance in Schools, Bans on Specified Firearms or Ammunition, Restrictions on Firearm Acquisition, Waiting Periods for Firearm Acquisition, Combinations of Firearms Laws and etc…

So, when you see the CDC reports, it appears that our lawmakers are using bad science to create laws that put us at risk for internal and external invasion.

So, should science be included in the curriculum or should it be removed along with Constitutional history?
